This afternoon I decide to go down to my local club where I will conducting the rugby drills section of the programme. I wanted to test my ability just to see where I was at. Unfortunately it was extremely windy so it wasn’t much fun to kick. Overall it was a good introduction to my training plan.
Here are my results:
IMPORTANT: EVERY KICK I MISSED, I ONLY JUST MISSED. DEFINITELY ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT HOWEVER.
Place Kicks – I did fairly average. The wind was quite annoying but that’s no excuse. I need to work on my right side more.
- 22m in front of the posts: 5/5 kicks successful (100%)
- 15m in from the sideline on the left: 3/5 kicks successful (60%)
- 15m in from the sideline on the right: 1/5 kicks successful (20%)
Drop Kicks – I was basically hopeless. I need to work on my accuracy as well as the distance. I will spend heaps more time on dropkicks.
- 22m in front of the posts: 1/5 kicks successful (20%)
- 15m in from the sideline on the left: 0/5 kicks successful (0%)
- 15m in from the sideline on the right: 0/5 kicks successful (0%)
Punts – I wasn’t that good. I need to work on the distance as I couldn’t quite get the distance.
- 22m to the 50m on the left side: 2/5 kicks successful (40%)
- 22m to the 50m on the right side: 1/5 kicks successful (20%)
I also did about 45 minutes of short and sharp sprint training.
It consisted of:
- 22m sprints without ball
- 22m sprints with ball
- 22 sprints with ball and do a sidestep
- 22m sprints without the ball and picking the ball up when you sprint past it
I got 2 x 22m sprint time:
- 1st = 4.30 seconds
- Last = 4.35 seconds
These times were to test my fitness and see how much slower I would be at the end of my training session compared to the start.
On the whole this session was satisfactory. I spent a good 2 ½ hours testing my ability. I need to practice getting more distance on my kicks and hopefully I will increase the distance as I get better.
Any comments would be appreciated.
